  1. New Online System Launched for Work Permits and Visas

Comments Off on New Online System Launched for Work Permits and Visas

Thailand’s Board of Investment has collaborated with the Immigration Bureau and the Department of Employment to set up a new process to allow BOI-registered companies to process work permit, visa and renewal applications digitally. Though applicants will still need to visit the specially set up centres to collect their documentation, however, service users will be supplied with a digital work permit, rather than the physical work permit booklets that are currently the norm. Visa applicants will not be required to queue to collect their visas.

The program is designed to improve efficiency in terms of the application and pick-up processes for BOI companies. The scheme will be introduced in phases over the next year.

The program will be implemented in phases starting from October 1st, but will be compulsory from January 1st for Bangkok One-Stop Service Center service users or those in Chiang Mai and Phuket. It will be rolled out fully across Thailand in October 2018.

The 10-year visa for foreign retirees is now available. This comes after last year’s cabinet resolution, which agreed to permit this type of visa. The official announcement of the Ministry of Interior dated 26 May 2017 came into full force on 26 July 2017. Applications for 10-year visas are already being accepted. Foreigners can apply at their provincial immigration offices.

Importantly, foreign retirees must meet the requirements. Of note is the required deposit amount of 3 million THB and to hold a passport from one of 14 countries: Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom or the United States.
